Frequently Asked Questions

The Jing Method is an advanced approach to clinical massage that combines hot and cold therapy, deep tissue techniques, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It's outcome focused and tailored to your specific patterns of pain and tension. Unlike a standard massage, it targets the root cause of pain rather than just treating symptoms. It's particularly effective for chronic neck and shoulder pain, lower back pain, headaches, and repetitive strain injuries.

Session lengths vary by treatment. Most treatments are available as 30-minute, 60-minute or 90-minute sessions. The Jing Method is typically 60 or 90 minutes to allow time for assessment and thorough treatment. I'll recommend the best duration for your needs when you book.

Regular massage therapy can reduce muscle tension and pain, lower stress hormones (cortisol), improve sleep quality, boost circulation and lymphatic drainage, increase flexibility and range of motion, support immune function, and promote overall mental and physical well-being. The specific benefits depend on the type of massage and your individual needs.

Every session begins with a brief consultation where we discuss your needs, any areas of concern, and your pressure preferences. You'll undress to your comfort level and be covered with towels throughout — only the area being worked on is uncovered. During the massage, I'll check in with you on pressure. Afterwards, I'll offer aftercare advice. The whole experience is designed to be comfortable, professional, and tailored to you.

Drink plenty of water beforehand, avoid heavy meals in the hour before your session, and wear comfortable clothing. If it's your first visit, I'll ask about your health history and what you'd like to achieve from the session.

Not necessarily. Effective treatment doesn’t require excessive pain. I work progressively—allowing your muscles to warm and soften before applying deeper techniques. This means we can release tension in a way that feels manageable and safe, rather than overwhelming. You’re always in control, and we’ll adjust pressure together throughout the session.

That’s absolutely okay. Many people I work with have a heightened sense of touch and body awareness, especially if they’re living with persistent pain. I tailor each treatment to your nervous system as much as your muscles, using a slower, more gradual approach so your body can feel safe and supported.

The level of interaction required may be dependent on your goals for the session. During a relaxation or therapeutic massage - not at all. Some clients like to chat, others prefer quiet—both are completely welcome. I will check in about pressure and comfort when needed, but beyond that, the space is yours to use however feels best. However, clinical and sports massages may require you to speak or use non-verbal signals when you feel areas of tension or pain.

You may feel some mild post-treatment tenderness, similar to how your body feels after exercise, but the aim is to avoid excessive soreness. My approach focuses on working effectively without leaving you bruised or depleted. Most clients feel looser, lighter, and more at ease.

This depends on your goals and how long the issue has been present. For persistent pain or long-standing tension, a short course of treatments often works best. We’ll discuss a realistic plan together, with no pressure—just clear guidance so you can make an informed decision.

No -only undress to your level of comfort. Most clients undress to their underwear, but you will always be fully covered with towels, and only the area being treated is exposed. If you prefer to remain more covered, this can always be accommodated and I will adapt my techniques accordingly.

Many clients come to me after finding that previous massage treatments didn’t create lasting change. My work takes a more clinical and individualised approach, focusing on the underlying drivers of pain and tension. By combining techniques and working at a pace your body can respond to, we aim for more meaningful, longer-term results rather than short-term relief.
